Maurice Sendak was an American illustrator and writer of children’s books. He is best known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, which has been adapted into other media several times. He was also the illustrator of many other books, including In the Night Kitchen and Outside Over There. He was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1964 for Where the Wild Things Are and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1970. Sendak’s works have been praised for their ability to speak to children on their level and to open up conversations about difficult topics.
