    Todd Haynes is an American filmmaker known for his unique and provocative approach to storytelling. He was born on January 2, 1961, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in nearby Encino. Haynes attended Brown University, where he studied art and semiotics, and later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Bard College. He began his career as a filmmaker in the 1980s, making experimental short films and music videos. In 1991, he gained critical acclaim for his feature debut, “Poison,” which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Haynes has since directed a number of acclaimed films, including “Safe,” “Velvet Goldmine,” “Far from Heaven,” and “Carol.” He is known for his exploration of themes such as gender, sexuality, and identity, and his use of unconventional narrative structures and visual styles.
