Stephen Vincent Benet was an American poet, novelist, and short story writer. He was born in 1898 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and grew up in a literary family. Benet’s most famous work is the epic poem “John Brown’s Body,” which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1929. He also wrote several novels, including “The Devil and Daniel Webster,” which was adapted into a successful play and film. Benet died in 1943 at the age of 44.
