    Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist, and poet. He is best known for his works such as “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” “The Importance of Being Earnest,” and “Salome.” Wilde was known for his wit, flamboyant personality, and his involvement in the aesthetic movement. He was imprisoned for homosexuality and died shortly after his release.
