    Marguerite Duras was a French novelist, playwright, and filmmaker. She was born in 1914 in Gia Dinh, French Indochina (now Vietnam) and died in 1996 in Paris, France. Duras is best known for her novel “The Lover” and her film “Hiroshima Mon Amour.” She was a prominent figure in the French New Wave movement and was awarded the Prix Goncourt in 1984 for her novel “The North China Lover.”
