Louis Sachar is an American writer known for his children’s and young adult literature. He was born on March 20, 1954, in East Meadow, New York. Sachar attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a degree in economics. He worked as a lawyer for several years before turning to writing full-time. Sachar’s most famous work is the novel “Holes,” which won the Newbery Medal in 1999. He has also written several other popular books, including “Wayside School” series and “Small Steps.” Sachar currently lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife and daughter.
