    Bio:

    John Bayley was a British literary critic and writer, born on March 27, 1925, in Lahore, British India. He was a fellow of St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, and taught English literature at the University of Oxford for many years. Bayley was best known for his memoirs, including “Elegy for Iris,” which chronicled his life with his wife, the novelist Iris Murdoch, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. He also wrote several books on literature, including “The Romantic Survival: A Study in Poetic Evolution” and “Shakespeare and Tragedy.” Bayley passed away on January 12, 2015, at the age of 89.
