Jerry Lewis was an American comedian, actor, singer, filmmaker, and humanitarian. He was born on March 16, 1926, in Newark, New Jersey, and began his career in entertainment in the 1940s. Lewis became famous for his partnership with Dean Martin, with whom he starred in numerous films and television shows. He also had a successful solo career, starring in and directing many films, including “The Nutty Professor” and “The Bellboy.” In addition to his entertainment career, Lewis was a philanthropist and raised millions of dollars for muscular dystrophy research through his annual Labor Day telethon. He passed away on August 20, 2017, at the age of 91.
