    Bio:

    Gillo Pontecorvo (1919-2006) was an Italian filmmaker and screenwriter. He is best known for his political films, including “The Battle of Algiers” (1966), which depicts the Algerian War of Independence, and “Burn!” (1969), which explores the exploitation of workers in a fictional Caribbean island. Pontecorvo was also a member of the Italian Communist Party and was involved in leftist political activism throughout his life.
