    Virginia Van Upp (1908-1988) was an American film producer and screenwriter. She was one of the first female producers in Hollywood and is credited with producing over 50 films during her career. She was known for her work on films such as The Lady from Shanghai (1947), The Big Sleep (1946), and Gilda (1946). She was also a successful screenwriter, writing the screenplay for the classic film The Maltese Falcon (1941). Van Upp was a pioneer in the industry and was a major influence on the development of film noir.
