Tobe Hooper was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer best known for his work in the horror genre. He directed the classic horror films The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) and Poltergeist (1982). He also directed the Stephen King adaptation Salem’s Lot (1979) and the science fiction horror film Lifeforce (1985). Hooper’s other credits include the cult classic The Funhouse (1981), the remake of Invaders from Mars (1986), and the miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand (1994). Hooper died in 2017 at the age of 74.
