Robert Alan Arthur is an American film and television producer, writer, and director. He is best known for producing the television series M*A*S*H, which ran from 1972 to 1983. He also wrote and directed the feature film The Mephisto Waltz, starring Alan Alda and Jacqueline Bisset. Arthur has won two Emmy Awards for his work on M*A*S*H, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film. He has also produced and written for other television series, including The Bob Newhart Show, Taxi, and Cheers.
