Jean-Jacques Annaud is a French film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for directing the Academy Award-winning films The Name of the Rose (1986) and Quest for Fire (1981). Annaud has been nominated for three Academy Awards and has won numerous awards, including the César Award for Best Film and the BAFTA Award for Best Film.
