He is best known for directing the Academy Award-nominated film City of God, as well as The Constant Gardener, Blindness, and 360. He has also directed several television series, including The First, The Pope, and The New Pope. Meirelles has won numerous awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Director for City of God, and the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival for The Constant Gardener.
