Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Fresh Kernels (freshkernels.com) collects, why, and who it is shared with. If you have a question or want your data removed, email gary@gtacompanies.com.

What we collect

You can browse Fresh Kernels without an account. If you sign in or use account features, we collect:

• Account details: your email address, display name and profile photo link, provided by Google or Apple when you sign in, plus the times your account was created and last signed in.
• Watchlists: the movies and shows you save. Before you sign in, your watchlist is kept only in your own browser's local storage. After you sign in, it is stored with your account.
• Preferences: the streaming services and TV settings you choose.
• Posts and uploads: any images, videos, video links or other content you post, along with the posts themselves.
• Votes: your up or down votes on posts, linked to your account.
• Visit statistics: our analytics tool (run by alcock.ai) records the page you view (with only campaign or referral tags from the address kept), the referring page, the page title, your browser type, your approximate country and a visitor identifier that is hashed and resets daily. It does not set cookies.

We do not run advertising, ad trackers or tracking pixels, and we do not sell your information.

How we use it

We use this information to run your account, save your watchlist and preferences, show your posts and votes, keep the site safe, and understand which pages people use so we can improve them.

Who we share it with

We rely on these services to run the site. Each one receives only what it needs, and each has its own privacy policy:

• Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database and Storage) stores your account, watchlist, preferences, posts, uploads and votes.
• Google and Apple sign-in verify who you are when you choose to sign in with them.
• alcock.ai provides our cookie-free visit statistics described above.
• TMDB (The Movie Database) supplies movie and TV data and images. Your browser loads images from TMDB and may call TMDB directly, so TMDB receives your IP address and browser details.
• YouTube and Vimeo serve trailer thumbnails and embedded videos. When you play or load an embedded video, those services receive your IP address and may set their own cookies.
• Google Fonts serves the site's fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details.
• GitHub Pages hosts the site and may keep standard server logs such as IP addresses.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users.

Public content

Posts, uploads and your display name shown with them can be seen by other visitors. Don't post anything you want to keep private.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. There is no self-serve delete button yet, so to delete your account, watchlist, preferences, posts and uploads, email gary@gtacompanies.com from the address on your account and we will delete them. Information already stored by the third parties above is governed by their own policies.

Your choices and rights

You can use the site without signing in, clear your browser's local storage at any time, and ask us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or California privacy law. Email us to use them.

Children

Fresh Kernels is not directed at children under 13, and children under 13 should not create an account or post content. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page.
