Critics Consensus

The Quiet Girl is a cinematic masterpiece that speaks volumes through its silence. The film’s unassuming nature and delicate storytelling make it a refreshing departure from the noisy and jumbled films that dominate the industry. Catherine Clinch delivers a breathtaking performance that will leave you moved and touched. The dreamy score by Stephen Rennick adds an ethereal atmosphere that perfectly complements the film’s poignant themes of grief and family love. Colm Bairead’s direction is precise and every scene counts, making The Quiet Girl a must-see for anyone who appreciates the transformative power of love.

Audience Consensus

The Quiet Girl is a movie that speaks volumes without saying much at all. It’s like that one friend who always knows exactly what you need to hear, even if they don’t say it out loud. The performances are subtle and nuanced, and the dreamy score will transport you to another world. It’s a coming-of-age story that will leave you feeling all the feels, and it’s definitely a must-see. Plus, there’s a cookie that’s not just a cookie, and that’s everything.

… A quiet film. A whisper of a film, really. And its unassuming nature makes it all the more effective.

The Quiet Girl unfurls gently… it seems so simple but leads only to possibilities, and one word – said twice – that will be engraved upon your heart.

In a world of noise — and noisy, jumbled films — this story of found family speaks loudest when saying nothing.

The story is simple; it’s the connection between an invisible girl and a woman who finally sees her that forms the backbone of this lovely, handmade film.

Through heart-wrenching, nuanced and arresting performances by Clinch, Crowley and Bennett, The Quiet Girl technically lives up to its name, but speaks volumes about the transformative power of what it means to be loved.

The very accurately titled The Quiet Girl is a mediative drama about how an introverted Irish girl spends a life-changing summer away from her troubled home and learns some poignant lessons about grief and family love.

As in Keegan’s novels, every word, every crystalline scene counts in The Quiet Girl. Each must be heard and seen with precision. When that cookie is set on the table in an insert shot, it is not just a cookie. It is a stealth symbol. It is everything.

Thanks to its realism and heartfelt treatment, what could have been cloying and sentimental is instead profoundly moving. “The Quiet Girl” is a cinematic gem.
