He gained critical acclaim for his first feature film, “Distant Voices, Still Lives” (1988), which won the International Critics’ Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Davies has since directed several other acclaimed films, including “The Long Day Closes” (1992), “The House of Mirth” (2000), and “Sunset Song” (2015). He is known for his distinctive visual style, which often features long takes, slow pans, and a focus on the details of everyday life. Davies is also a writer and has published several books, including a memoir titled “Of Time and the City” (2008).
