Jewison began his career in the entertainment industry as a television producer and director in the 1950s. He later transitioned to feature films and directed several critically acclaimed movies, including “In the Heat of the Night,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Moonstruck.” Jewison has been nominated for numerous Academy Awards and has won three, including the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1999. He is known for his socially conscious films that tackle issues such as racism, poverty, and injustice. Jewison retired from directing in 2003 but remains an influential figure in the film industry.
