Nadine Labaki is a Lebanese film director, actress, and screenwriter. She was born on February 18, 1974, in Beirut, Lebanon. Labaki started her career as an actress in the late 1990s before transitioning to directing. She gained international recognition for her films “Caramel” (2007) and “Where Do We Go Now?” (2011), both of which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2018, she directed “Capernaum,” which won the Jury Prize at Cannes and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Labaki is known for her socially conscious films that explore themes of gender, class, and politics in the Middle East.
