    Lee Chang-dong is a South Korean film director, screenwriter, and novelist. He was born on July 4, 1954, in Daegu, South Korea. Lee began his career as a novelist before transitioning to filmmaking in the 1990s. He is known for his socially conscious and emotionally powerful films, which often explore themes of class, gender, and politics. Some of his most acclaimed works include “Peppermint Candy,” “Secret Sunshine,” and “Burning.” Lee has won numerous awards for his work, including the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 for “Burning.”
