John M. Stahl was an American film director and producer, born on January 21, 1886, in New York City. He began his career in the film industry in the 1910s as an actor and later transitioned to directing. Stahl directed over 50 films throughout his career, including the critically acclaimed films “Leave Her to Heaven” (1945) and “Imitation of Life” (1934). He was known for his melodramatic style and his ability to bring out strong performances from his actors. Stahl passed away on January 12, 1950, in Hollywood, California.
