Gregg Araki is an American independent filmmaker known for his provocative and edgy films that explore themes of sexuality, identity, and alienation. He was born on December 17, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, and studied film at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Araki gained critical acclaim for his early films, including “The Living End” (1992) and “Totally F***ed Up” (1993), which were part of the New Queer Cinema movement. He continued to push boundaries with films like “The Doom Generation” (1995) and “Nowhere” (1997), which explored the lives of disaffected youth. Araki has also directed television shows, including “Riverdale” and “13 Reasons Why.”
