George Butler is an American film director, producer, and writer known for his work in the documentary genre. He is best known for directing the 1977 documentary “Pumping Iron,” which followed the lives of bodybuilders Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno as they prepared for the Mr. Olympia competition. Butler has also directed several other documentaries, including “The Endurance: Shackleton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition” and “Roving Mars.” He has won numerous awards for his work, including an Emmy and a Peabody Award.
