Fernando Trueba is a Spanish film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was born on January 18, 1955, in Madrid, Spain. Trueba began his career as a film critic before transitioning to directing in the 1980s. He is best known for his films Belle Epoque, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1994, and Chico & Rita, which was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 84th Academy Awards. Trueba has also directed several documentaries and has been recognized with numerous awards throughout his career.
