Elaine May is an American film director, screenwriter, and actress. She was born on April 21, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. May began her career in the 1950s as a comedian and improvisational performer, working alongside Mike Nichols. She later transitioned to writing and directing films, including “A New Leaf” (1971) and “The Heartbreak Kid” (1972). May has also worked as a screenwriter on several films, including “Heaven Can Wait” (1978) and “Tootsie” (1982). She has been nominated for several Academy Awards and has won numerous awards for her work in film and theater.
