Cristian Mungiu is a Romanian film director and screenwriter known for his work in the Romanian New Wave movement. He was born on April 27, 1968, in Iași, Romania. Mungiu studied English literature at the University of Iași before attending the University of Film and Theatre in Bucharest. He gained international recognition for his 2007 film “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days,” which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Mungiu has also directed other critically acclaimed films such as “Beyond the Hills” and “Graduation.” He is considered one of the most important contemporary Romanian filmmakers.
