Bahman Ghobadi is an Iranian-Kurdish film director, born on February 1, 1969, in Baneh, Iran. He is known for his films that explore the lives of Kurds and other marginalized groups in Iran. Ghobadi began his career as a filmmaker in the late 1990s and gained international recognition with his 2000 film, A Time for Drunken Horses, which won the Caméra d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He has since directed several critically acclaimed films, including Turtles Can Fly, Half Moon, and No One Knows About Persian Cats. Ghobadi’s films often address social and political issues, and he has been an outspoken advocate for Kurdish rights.
