Anthony Minghella was a British film director, playwright, and screenwriter. He was born on January 6, 1954, in Ryde, Isle of Wight, England, and passed away on March 18, 2008, in London, England. Minghella is best known for directing the films “The English Patient,” which won nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” He also directed “Cold Mountain,” “Breaking and Entering,” and “Truly, Madly, Deeply.” Minghella was also a successful playwright and screenwriter, and his work includes the plays “Made in Bangkok” and “Whale Music” and the screenplays for “The Quiet American” and “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.”
