W. Murnau, also known as Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, was a German film director who was active during the silent era of cinema. He is best known for his films “Nosferatu” (1922), “Faust” (1926), and “Sunrise” (1927), which won three Academy Awards at the first-ever ceremony in 1929. Murnau was known for his innovative use of camera angles and lighting techniques, which helped to establish the visual language of cinema. He died in a car accident in 1931 at the age of 42.
