Ron Asheton (1948-2009) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was best known as the guitarist and co-songwriter of the influential proto-punk band The Stooges. He was a major influence on the punk and alternative rock scenes of the 1970s and 1980s. Asheton was also a member of the bands Destroy All Monsters and New Race. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
