Roddy McDowall (1928-1998) was an English-American actor, photographer, and director. He began his career as a child actor in England, and then moved to Hollywood in 1940. He starred in many classic films, including How Green Was My Valley, Lassie Come Home, The Greatest Show on Earth, and Planet of the Apes. He was also a prolific photographer, and his work was featured in several books and exhibitions. McDowall was a lifelong animal rights activist, and was a founding member of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
