Melville Cooper (1891-1973) was an English actor who appeared in over 100 films and television shows during his career. He is best known for his roles in films such as The Thin Man (1934), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), and The Great Dictator (1940). He was also a prolific stage actor, appearing in numerous Broadway productions. Cooper was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in The Prisoner of Zenda (1937). He was also a founding member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
