    Mary Astor (1906-1987) was an American actress who had a successful career in Hollywood during the silent and early sound film eras. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Great Lie (1941). She was also known for her roles in The Maltese Falcon (1941), Dodsworth (1936), and Meet Me in St. Louis (1944). Astor was a popular leading lady in the 1920s and 1930s, and was one of the most popular actresses of her time.
