Joan Ganz Cooney is an American television producer and educator. She is best known as the co-founder of the Children’s Television Workshop, now known as Sesame Workshop, the organization behind the production of the children’s television show Sesame Street. She was also the first female executive producer of an American television network. Cooney was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1995 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1995.
