Jean-Pierre Leaud is a French actor best known for his roles in films by French New Wave director François Truffaut. He first appeared in Truffaut’s The 400 Blows (1959) as Antoine Doinel, a character he would portray in five more films. He has also appeared in films by Jean-Luc Godard, Jacques Rivette, and other directors. Leaud has won numerous awards for his performances, including the Cannes Film Festival’s Best Actor Award for his role in The Mother and the Whore (1973).
