Adrienne Shelly (1966-2006) was an American actress, director, and screenwriter. She was best known for her roles in the films Waitress (2007) and The Unbelievable Truth (1989). She wrote, directed, and starred in the film Waitress, which earned her a posthumous Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. She was also known for her roles in the films Trust (1990), Sudden Manhattan (1996), and Factory Girl (2006). She was a passionate advocate for independent film and was a founding member of New York Women in Film & Television. She was tragically murdered in 2006, but her legacy lives on through her work.
