Yance Ford is an American documentary filmmaker and producer. He is best known for his Academy Award-nominated documentary Strong Island (2017), which chronicles the 1992 murder of his brother William Ford Jr. and the criminal justice system’s failure to bring his killer to justice. Ford is the first transgender director to be nominated for an Academy Award. He has also produced and directed several other documentaries, including The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant (2009) and A Thousand Midnights (2015).
