Antonio Skármeta is a Chilean novelist, screenwriter, and diplomat. He was born on November 7, 1940, in Antofagasta, Chile. Skármeta is best known for his novel “The Postman” (Ardiente Paciencia), which was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film, “Il Postino.” He has also written several other novels, including “No Pasarán,” “La Insurrección,” and “Los Días del Arcoíris.” In addition to his literary work, Skármeta has served as a cultural attaché for the Chilean embassy in Germany and as a professor of Latin American literature at various universities.
