Critics Consensus

Not One Less, directed by the masterful Zhang Yimou, is a stunning example of neorealism and docufiction. The film’s relentlessly small scale is essential to its power, as it tells the story of a young girl’s determination to save her classmate from a life of poverty. Yimou’s direction is complemented by the non-didactic grace of the thematic lesson, which clashes traditional community values with the burgeoning cult of money. The film’s stark depiction of life on the street is both humorous and pathos-filled, and the non-actors’ ability to bring the highly emotional fictional story to life is a testament to Yimou’s mastery of his craft. Not One Less is a small movie with a big impact, and it stands nicely beside Yimou’s other startling showcases for women under siege, such as Ju Dou and Shanghai Triad.

Audience Consensus

Not One Less is a heartwarming film that will make you laugh, cry, and appreciate the power of community. Zhang Yimou’s direction is masterful, and the non-actors give performances that are so convincing, you’ll forget they’re not professionals. The film’s small scale is what makes it so powerful, and it’s a testament to Yimou’s skill that he can create such a moving story with such simplicity. If you’re looking for a movie that will leave you feeling inspired, Not One Less is the perfect choice.

Critics Consensus

In “Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr.”, Errol Morris once again proves his mastery of storytelling by presenting a discomforting tale of a man destroyed by his own ignorance. Leuchter, a technician who was overly impressed with his own expertise and infallibility, becomes a small figure blindly sucked into the vortex of consummate evil. Morris’ subject’s disarming candor and misplaced vanity are both fascinating and tragic, but unfortunately, the film’s didactic turns undercut what could have been Morris’ best work yet. Nonetheless, “Mr. Death” is a thought-provoking and compelling documentary that will leave you questioning the limits of human knowledge and the dangers of unchecked hubris.

Audience Consensus

If you’re looking for a documentary that will make you feel comfortable, Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr. is not it. But if you’re looking for a fascinating and uncomfortable story about a man who was consumed by his own ignorance, then this is the film for you. Morris weaves a compelling narrative that will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about the death penalty and the people who carry it out. Plus, who doesn’t love a good deluded technician story? It’s like Breaking Bad, but with less meth and more lethal injection.

Critics Consensus

Gone with the Wind’s epic grandeur and romantic allure encapsulate an era of Hollywood filmmaking — but that can’t excuse a blinkered perspective that stands on the wrong side of history.

Audience Consensus

Gone With the Wind” is like a big, fancy cake that you know you shouldn’t eat but can’t resist. It’s got everything: romance, drama, war, and Clark Gable’s charming smirk. Sure, it’s not perfect – there’s some subtle racism and it’s a bit too long – but it’s still a classic for a reason. Plus, that shot of the dead soldiers in the street is hauntingly beautiful. If you haven’t seen it yet, give it a watch and see what all the fuss is about.

If the story had been cut short and tidied up at the point marked by the interval, and if the personal drama had been made subservient to a cinematic treatment of the central theme, then Gone With the Wind might have been a really great film.

Critics Consensus

The latest Bollywood epic, with its grandiose cast and storyline, is a cinematic masterpiece that transcends the boundaries of reality and takes the audience on a journey through fable and history. The film’s seamless blend of genres and tones, from insane action sequences to show-stopping musical numbers, is a testament to the director’s vision and the actors’ talents. It’s not just a story of men transitioning from ignorant to enlightened, but a transformation of life into visual literature. This film is a true spectacle that will leave you with goosebumps and whistles, and it’s a must-see for any lover of cinema.

Audience Consensus

This movie is like a wild ride on a rollercoaster, but instead of loops and drops, you get insane action sequences and Bollywood-style musical numbers. It’s like Fast and Furious meets Moulin Rouge, with a dash of historical epic thrown in for good measure. You won’t be bored for a second, and you might even find yourself cheering out loud during the crazy fight scenes. It’s a visual feast that will leave you feeling like you just witnessed something truly epic. Don’t miss it!

Critics Consensus

A brutal, often times funny, other times terrifying portrayal of drug addiction in Edinburgh. Not for the faint of heart, but well worth viewing as a realistic and entertaining reminder of the horrors of drug use.

Audience Consensus

Trainspotting is a wild ride that will leave you feeling like you just got off a rollercoaster. With its pitch-black humor, brutal recklessness, and frisky energy, this film is a ghoulish hoot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Despite being about aimless addicts, the characters have such strong personalities that they stand out and make you sympathize with them in some ways. But don’t be fooled, Trainspotting also shows the terrifying and surreal lows of withdrawal, as well as the real-life consequences of addiction. So buckle up and get ready for a ride you won’t forget!

A stunning feat of modern animation, Ghost in the Shell offers a thoughtful, complex treat for anime fans, as well as a perfect introduction for viewers new to the medium.

Audience Consensus

Ghost in the Shell” is a classic anime that still holds up today. The animation is top-notch and the soundtrack is killer. Plus, the story is full of action and thought-provoking ideas. It’s a must-watch for any sci-fi fan, even if you’re not a hardcore anime enthusiast. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good dose of hard-edged sexuality in their movies? Just be prepared for some nudity and violence, but hey, that’s what makes it powerful filmmaking.

Critics Consensus

Expertly shot and edited, The Usual Suspects gives the audience a simple plot and then piles on layers of deceit, twists, and violence before pulling out the rug from underneath.

Audience Consensus

The Usual Suspects is like a game of Clue on steroids, with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. It’s a heist movie that keeps you guessing until the very end, and then hits you with a reveal that will leave your jaw on the floor. The cast is top-notch, with Kevin Spacey delivering a performance that will make you question everything you thought you knew. If you’re a fan of crime movies, this one is a must-watch. Just make sure you have a notepad handy to keep track of all the clues!
