Neil LaBute’s pitch-black comedy is a masterful exploration of male insecurity, and it’s elevated by a breakout performance by Aaron Eckhart as a businessman who likes to play psychological games
In the Company of Men” is a movie that will make you question everything you thought you knew about men. Critics have called it “dazzling,” “probing,” and “pleasingly provocative,” but I call it a wild ride. It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion, but you can’t look away. The characters are so despicable that you can’t help but be fascinated by them. It’s definitely not a feel-good movie, but it’s worth watching just to see how far people can go when they’re pushed to their limits. Just don’t watch it with your boyfriend, unless you want to start a fight.

Plot
After a wild chase in the bustling streets of London, struggling computer game author Roger (Jeff Daniels) and his male Dalmatian, Pongo – by a welcome twist of fate – are dragged into St. James Park and meet with charming fashion designer Anita (Joely Richardson) and her female Dalmatian, Perdita. Soon, one thing will lead to another, and before they know it, Roger and Anita will get married and the adorable Perdita, pregnant. However, their short-lived joy is disrupted when Anita’s glamorous but horrible boss, Cruella DeVil (Glenn Close), dognaps the innocent puppies with the intention of making a luxurious coat with the dogs’ fabulously spotted fur. Eventually, along with Perdita’s fifteen puppies, Cruella will manage to bring the total to the staggering number of ninety-nine Dalmatians; nevertheless, are the cute little puppies as helpless as they look?

Thanks to some top notch acting, the chemistry between its stars, and a witty, thoughtful script, Mrs. Brown delivers a nuanced and entertaining, if not entirely factual, account of a seldom explored historical relationship
Mrs. Brown is a movie that tells the story of Queen Victoria’s intimate relationship with her servant, and it’s scandalous! But don’t worry, the director, John Madden, plays it cool and droll, making it a fun watch. Judi Dench’s performance is amazing, and she deserves an Oscar nomination for it. Plus, the chemistry between her and Billy Connolly is undeniable. The only downside is that the film is a bit flat, but the rich human insight, great production values, and topnotch acting make it a must-see. So, grab some popcorn and get ready for a royal scandal!

A light, sweet, and thoroughly entertaining debut for director Tom Hanks, That Thing You Do! makes up in charm what it lacks in complexity
That Thing You Do! is the perfect movie to watch when you need a little pick-me-up. Tom Hanks’ directorial debut is a fun and charming look at the rise and fall of a one-hit wonder band in the 60s. The catchy title track will have you tapping your feet and singing along, and the cast, especially Tom Everett Scott, is full of charisma. It’s not the most groundbreaking film, but it’s a feel-good classic that will leave you with a smile on your face. Plus, who doesn’t love a good underdog story?

The chief wonder of this rock ‘n’ roll cast is Tom Everett Scott, whose easy charisma, dreamy smile and undersurface intelligence should shoot him up the acting charts like a bullet.

Though Hanks keeps the satirical and critical aspects of this look at show biz fairly light, there’s a lot of conviction and savvy behind the steadiness of his gaze.

First-time writer/director Tom Hanks stays about a half-beat ahead of the cliches with rim shots of boyish enthusiasm and deft comedy. The movie’s also buoyed by the title song, whose Beatles sound is infectious enough to merit a real hit.

A sweet, likeable tale of the quick rise to fame and then demise of a small town band. Set in 1964, Hanks’ film offers a sanitized, Gump-ish look at a mythical period when boys were boys and girls were girls, with no references to the sex-drug subculture

Plot
Recounts a fable of a pop rock band formed a year after the Beatles took America by storm in early 1964. Jazz aficionado Guy Patterson, unhappily toiling in the family appliance store, is recruited into the band the Oneders (later renamed the Wonders) after regular drummer Chad breaks his arm. After Guy injects a four/four rock beat into lead singer Jimmy’s ballad, the song’s undeniable pop power flings the Wonders into a brief whirlwind of success, telling the tale of many American bands who attempted to grab the brass ring of rock and roll in the wake of the British Invasion.

Tombstone (1993)
RT Audience Score: 94%
Awards & Nominations: 2 nominations
If you’re seeking a stylish modern western with a solid story and a well-chosen ensemble cast, Tombstone is your huckleberry
Tombstone is a classic Western movie that has everything you could want: handlebar mustaches, tough-talking cowboys, and a morally ambiguous storyline. Sure, it might not be the most historically accurate film out there, but who cares when you’re having this much fun? The right-hand men steal the show and keep you coming back for more. It’s a shame that Westerns are an endangered species because Tombstone proves that they can still be spectacular and well-acted. So grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the ride.

A lot of care and attention were obviously devoted to selecting locations, designing sets, and grooming handlebar mustaches. Much less attention went to making one believe that any of the events took place circa 1879.
