Effortlessly mixing scares, laughs, and social commentary, Attack the Block is a thrilling, briskly-paced sci-fi yarn with a distinctly British flavor
Attack the Block” is the perfect movie for those who love a good mix of humor and horror. The under 20 cast is a blast to watch as they take on malevolent monsters in a unique and innovative take on the alien invasion scenario. The film is tightly executed in almost every capacity, with spot-on pacing and tense energy that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Plus, there’s an underlying social commentary that makes it even more satisfying. Powered by a terrific performance from Demián Bichir, A Better Life is an immigrant story told with simplicity and an ample amount of heart
A Better Life is a movie that will make you laugh, cry, and feel all the emotions in between. Demian Bichir’s performance is so good, you’ll forget he’s acting and start to believe he’s actually Carlos. The film does a great job of showing the struggles of immigrants in America, but it’s not all doom and gloom. There are moments of hope and joy that will make you want to stand up and cheer. Plus, the L.A. landscape is practically a character in itself. Overall, A Better Life is a must-see movie that will leave you feeling inspired and grateful for the life you have.

Plot
Nina (Portman) is a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her obsessive former ballerina mother Erica (Hershey) who exerts a suffocating control over her. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side – a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.

You’re going to have to track “Point Blank” down, but if you’re looking for a real slice of what the thriller cinema perpetually promises and so rarely delivers — pure force from up close — it’s one of the standout secrets of the year.

The American action flick is a genre that will never die. But it’s hard to make one that seems fresh, as filmmakers seem to stick to a winning formula. Point Blank is an invigorating exception.

[Writers] Cavay and Lemans…dump all manner of double-dealing and good cop-bad cop intrigue into what could have been a wonderfully streamlined, character-driven thriller about an innocent man forced to do the bidding of criminals to save his family.

Patient and restrained, Of Gods and Men asks deep, profound questions that will linger in the audience’s mind long after the movie
Of Gods and Men is a movie that will make you feel like you’re in church, but without the boring parts. The film follows a group of monks who are just trying to live their lives and do good in the world, but things get complicated when violence comes knocking at their door. The performances are great, and the cinematography is beautiful. Plus, there’s a scene where the monks sing while a helicopter hovers overhead, which is pretty badass. Overall, it’s a meditative and moving film that will make you think about faith, bravery, and what it means to be human.
