It’s not particularly deep, but Backdraft is a strong action movie with exceptional special effects
Backdraft” is a movie that will make you appreciate firefighters more than ever before. Sure, it’s unrealistic, but who cares when you’re watching state-of-the-art special effects that make you feel like you’re inside a burning building? Plus, there’s a sex scene on top of a fire engine, so there’s plenty of eye candy for everyone. The plot may get a little murky at times, but the relationship between the two firefighting brothers is worth exploring. Overall, “Backdraft” is a smoking-hot slice of old-school entertainment that’s worth a watch.

Absurd, over-the-top, and often wildly entertaining, Point Break is here to show you that the human spirit is still alive
Point Break is the ultimate action movie for adrenaline junkies who love surfing, skydiving, and FBI agents who think they’re too cool for school. Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze are like two sides of the same coin, one a straight-laced agent and the other a spiritual surfer dude. The action sequences are so intense, you’ll feel like you’re right there with them, riding the waves and jumping out of planes. Sure, the plot might be a little confusing at times, but who cares when you’re having this much fun? So grab a bag of popcorn and get ready for the ride of your life!

THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone (1990)
RT Audience Score: 67%
Awards & Nominations: Nominated for 7 Oscars
6 wins & 23 nominations total
Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone is a film that has been long-awaited by fans of the iconic trilogy. While some may argue that the changes made are not significant enough to sway those who already dislike it, the director has managed to create a more streamlined version that still captures the essence of the original. The film explores themes of regret, guilt, and the consequences of power, all while maintaining the tautly controlled turbulence that guides the eye to salient details. It’s a fitting end to the Corleone saga, and one that reminds us why the Godfather trilogy remains a cinematic masterpiece. As Michael Corleone himself once said, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” And we’re glad they did.
The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone is like that one friend who always wants to redo their outfit before going out, but you still love them anyway. While it may not be drastically different from the original, it’s still a solid movie that’s worth watching. Plus, who doesn’t love a good mafia drama? Coppola may not have reinvented the wheel, but he’s definitely given it a fresh coat of paint. So grab some cannolis and settle in for a night of family drama and betrayal.

Presumed Innocent (1990)
RT Audience Score: 67%
Awards & Nominations: 1 win & 2 nominations
Thanks to an outstanding script, focused direction by Alan Pakula, and a riveting performance from Harrison Ford, Presumed Innocent is the kind of effective courtroom thriller most others aspire to be
Presumed Innocent is like a game of Clue, but instead of figuring out who killed Mr. Boddy, you’re trying to figure out who’s guilty of murder. The movie is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. The courtroom scenes are especially captivating, and the actors give great performances. Harrison Ford is the perfect choice for the lead role, and he brings a smart and self-effacing energy to the character. Overall, Presumed Innocent is a darn good yarn well told, but it’s missing that essential magic that would make it a great movie.

Plot
Rozat Sabich – Rusty to most that know him, even in formal circumstances – is the Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Kindle County, Illinois. His wife, Barbara Sabich, has been struggling with focus on completing her Ph.D. dissertation in Mathemetics – a thus far ten year process – she who nonetheless is applying for a college teaching position. They are generally in a loving, supportive marriage, Barbara who seems to have gotten over Rusty’s infidelity with his colleague Carolyn Polhemus, an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. Carolyn is ambitious, she who, in part, used Rusty to try and climb up the ladder. Barbara will still throw the issue of Carolyn in his face whenever there are problems between the two. Rusty and Carolyn’s affair is unknown to others in their personal and professional circles. Rusty is handed the most personal case of his career when his boss and mentor, Chief Prosecuting Attorney Raymond Horgan, assigns him the case to discover who killed Carolyn, her dead body found in her apartment in what looks initially to be a violent rape, with Carolyn eventually strangled and no sign of forced entry, leading to the belief her killer was whoever her lover or possibly someone she prosecuted. Raymond, who is in a difficult reelection campaign, wants a quick resolution to the investigation, as “finding the killer” will greatly increase his chances of getting reelected. Rusty tries to dissuade Raymond from giving him the case because of the affair of which Raymond is unaware, with Rusty eventually having no choice but to accept barring disclosure of the affair. As Rusty proceeds with the investigation, he takes steps to hide the affair largely to protect Barbara and their adolescent son, Nat Sabich. Those measures come back to bite him when they and other evidence collected by the police lead to him being charged for Carolyn’s murder. Rusty hires Sandy Stern, one of his toughest adversaries in a number of previous cases. During the court proceedings, many involved do whatever they can protect their own interest regardless of the truth. Beyond Rusty being convicted or acquitted, a question thus becomes if the truth matters or if the murderer will ever be discovered.

Cry-Baby (1990)
RT Audience Score: 77%

John Waters’ musical ode to the teen rebel genre is infectious and gleefully camp, providing star Johnny Depp with the perfect vehicle in which to lampoon his pin-up image
Cry-Baby is a movie that’s so good-humored, it’ll make you forget about all the other mainstream American films out there. Sure, the ’50s references might intimidate the actors at first, but the musical energy that develops will carry you away. And let’s not forget about the zany, wide-eyed, quintessential Waters havoc that’s sure to make you laugh. It’s not the most revolutionary or provocative work, but it’s a polished debunking of pop culture that pokes fun at the sanitized Greases and Romeo and Juliets of the world. So, if you’re looking for a nostalgic delight that’s both sweet-spirited and crummy, Cry-Baby is the movie for you.
