While I’ve never been into sports, it’s hard not to root for a sports doc which tells its stories with such sensitivity while embodying good sportmanship. Changing the Game is eager to play but wins or loses with passion, sensitivity, and class.

Critics Consensus

Bracingly elevated by a typically committed lead performance from Joaquin Phoenix, You Were Never Really Here confirms writer-director Lynne Ramsay as one of modern cinema’s most unique — and uncompromising — voices

Audience Consensus

If you’re looking for a movie that’s equal parts stylish and crass, then You Were Never Really Here is the perfect fit. It’s a wild ride that will leave you with shivers down to your toes, but also scratching your head at times. The technical aspects of the film are impressive, from the fluid camerawork to the electronic music score. And while the plot may be a bit hard to follow, it’s worth it to see Lynne Ramsay’s unique take on masculinity. Just be prepared for some violence and zig-zags along the way.

Critics Consensus

Annihilation backs up its sci-fi visual wonders and visceral genre thrills with an impressively ambitious — and surprisingly strange — exploration of challenging themes that should leave audiences pondering long after the end credits roll

Audience Consensus

Annihilation is the kind of movie that makes you want to crawl out of your skin, but in a good way. It’s like if H.P. Lovecraft and Tarkovsky had a baby and then that baby grew up to direct a sci-fi horror masterpiece. The all-female cast brings a fresh dynamic to the genre, and the special effects are so mind-blowing that you’ll wish you saw it on the biggest screen possible. Sure, the plot might be a little disjointed and the dialogue a bit clunky, but who cares when you’re being visually and emotionally annihilated?

Critics Consensus

Ex Libris: The New York Public Library is a mesmerizing and enlightening documentary that captures the essence of one of the world’s most iconic libraries. Wiseman’s meticulous attention to detail and his ability to showcase the library’s democratic nature is a testament to his filmmaking prowess. The film is a visual feast that takes the audience on a journey through the library’s various branches, highlighting the diverse range of people who use it and the myriad of activities that take place within its walls. Wiseman’s work is a love letter to the institution, and it’s impossible not to be swept away by the passion and dedication of the staff and patrons alike. In short, Ex Libris is a must-see for anyone who loves books, libraries, and the power of knowledge.

Audience Consensus

Ex Libris: The New York Public Library is like a love letter to libraries, and it’s not just because I’m a bookworm. Wiseman’s documentary is a three-hour journey through the NYPL system, and it’s surprisingly captivating. From the people who work there to the people who use it, the library is a hub of activity and knowledge. It’s not just a building full of books, it’s a community center, a research institution, and a place of refuge. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good montage of people flipping through books? It’s like ASMR for the literary-minded. So, if you’re looking for a documentary that’s both informative and soothing, Ex Libris is the way to go.

Critics Consensus

The Love Witch offers an absorbing visual homage to a bygone era, arranged subtly in service of a thought-provoking meditation on the battle of the sexes

Audience Consensus

The Love Witch is like a time machine that takes you back to the 60s, but with a modern twist. It’s a hilarious and sexy ride that will make you question your own desires. The film is a perfect blend of retro pastiche and B-movie camp, with some seriously entertaining performances. Anne Biller’s direction is spot-on, and the attention to detail is impressive. The Love Witch is a must-see for anyone who loves horror, comedy, or just good old-fashioned witchcraft. So grab your broomstick and get ready for a wild ride!

Storyline

Elaine, a beautiful young witch, is determined to find a man to love her. In her gothic Victorian apartment she makes spells and potions, and then picks up men and seduces them. However her spells work too well, and she ends up with a string of hapless victims. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved will drive her to the brink of insanity and murder. With a visual style that pays tribute to Technicolor thrillers of the 1970s, THE LOVE WITCH explores female fantasy and the repercussions of pathological narcissism.

Well-acted and fiendishly frightening with an emotionally affecting story at its core, It amplifies the horror in Stephen King’s classic story without losing touch with its heart

It” is like a rollercoaster ride that starts off slow but picks up speed as it goes along. The film is a mix of horror and nostalgia, with a group of kids facing off against a terrifying clown. While some of the scares fall flat, the performances are top-notch and the visuals are stunning. It’s a fun and freaky reboot that will leave you with a few creepy moments to remember. Just don’t watch it alone in the dark!

As strange as it is thrillingly ambitious, The Lobster is definitely an acquired taste — but for viewers with the fortitude to crack through Yorgos Lanthimos’ offbeat sensibilities, it should prove a savory cinematic treat

Audience Consensus

If you’re looking for a movie that’s as weird as it is hilarious, then The Lobster is the perfect pick for you. Colin Farrell is a delight to watch as he navigates a world where being single is illegal and you’re turned into an animal if you can’t find a mate. It’s a satire that hits close to home, but with a surreal twist that keeps you on your toes. Plus, who doesn’t love a good paunchy Colin Farrell?
