Smoking Causes Coughing (2023)
RT Audience Score: 52%
Awards & Nominations: NA
“Smoking Causes Coughing” is a film that defies explanation, but that’s part of its charm. Director Quentin Dupieux has created a surreal and irreverent world that will leave you in stitches. The film moves at a leisurely pace, allowing the perpetually strung-out jokes to land with maximum impact. The cast, including both human and puppet performers, is uniformly excellent and delivers enthusiastic performances. While the film may not have a cohesive plot or profound message, it’s a hilarious and unforgettable experience that will leave you gasping for air between laughs. Dupieux may not be for everyone, but for those who appreciate his unique brand of humor, “Smoking Causes Coughing” is a must-see.
“Smoking Causes Coughing” is the kind of movie that will leave you scratching your head and wondering what the heck you just watched. But in a good way! It’s a wild ride of irreverent humor and strung-out jokes that will have you giggling uncontrollably. Sure, it might not make a whole lot of sense, but who needs sense when you’ve got puppets and superheroes and existential farce? If you’re looking for a profound plot, this might not be the movie for you. But if you’re looking for a good time and a lot of laughs, then buckle up and get ready for a weirdly unforgettable experience.

Nocebo (2022)
RT Audience Score: 67%
Awards & Nominations: NA
Nocebo, the latest psychological horror film from Lorcan Finnegan, has left critics divided. While some praise the film’s sleek production values and strong performances, others criticize its lack of depth and overlong runtime. The film attempts to tackle weighty themes such as guilt, vengeance, and the commodification of labor and life under global capitalism, but its preoccupations render the message numbingly didactic. Despite this, Nocebo manages to entertain with its supernatural nuttiness and sense of dread, making it a worthwhile watch for horror fans. Eva Green’s talents are unfortunately wasted in a screenplay that drags out the tale of ‘who-actually-is-the-mentally-stable-protagonist-of-this-story?’ However, the film’s bold depiction of shamanic experience and its prescient ideas and themes make it a thought-provoking addition to the horror genre.
Nocebo is a horror movie that tries to be deep and meaningful, but ends up being a confusing mess. The plot follows a fashion designer who can’t deal with her trauma, and it’s supposed to be scary, but it’s mostly just boring. The flashbacks are supposed to add depth, but they just make things more confusing. The only good thing about this movie is Eva Green’s performance, but even she can’t save it. If you’re looking for a horror movie that’s actually scary, look somewhere else.

The final installment of The Godfather saga recalls its predecessors’ power when it’s strictly business, but underwhelming performances and confused tonality brings less closure to the Corleone story
The Godfather, Part III has been hailed as a classic by some and a disappointment by others, but one thing is for sure: Sofia Coppola’s acting skills were not up to par. Despite this, the film still manages to captivate audiences with its intricate plot and stunning art direction. And let’s not forget the iconic performances by Al Pacino and Andy Garcia. On the Rocks isn’t as potent as its top-shelf ingredients might suggest, but the end result still goes down easy — and offers high proof of Bill Murray’s finely aged charm
On The Rocks is the perfect movie for anyone who loves New York City, father-daughter relationships, and Bill Murray. Sofia Coppola’s direction is as smooth as a glass of whiskey on the rocks, and Rashida Jones and Murray’s chemistry is so good, you’ll want to order another round. It’s a charming and endearing tale that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside, like a good hug from your dad. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. Cheers to Coppola for another fine example of romantic drama!

A compelling story cleverly told, We Are What We Are quenches horror buffs’ thirst for gore while serving up serious-minded filmmaking and solid acting
Who knew a movie about cannibalism could be so moody and tense? “We Are What We Are” is a gothic horror film that’s more about family drama than gore, but don’t worry, there’s still plenty of bloodletting to go around. The film successfully creates a sense of impending doom that permeates the theater, and the director’s distinct vision finds beauty in the horrific. So if you’re in the mood for a little bit of cannibalism with your family drama, this is the movie for you!

A seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank rules his family with a rigorous fervor, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost. As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris and Rose are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family. As the unrelenting downpour continues to flood their small town, the local authorities begin to uncover clues that bring them closer to the secret that the Parkers have held closely for so many years.

Agonizingly funny, Tiny Furniture marks an observant study of a failure to launch and an auspicious debut for writer-director Lena Dunham
Tiny Furniture is a movie that’s like a slice of life, but not the good kind of slice like pizza. It’s more like a slice of stale bread that you accidentally left out on the counter for too long. The characters are all kind of annoying and self-absorbed, but in a way that’s almost endearing. It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion, but you can’t look away. Lena Dunham definitely has a unique voice and style, but whether or not you’ll enjoy this movie depends on how much you can tolerate watching people make bad decisions and complain about their lives.

The Fountain, a film that has been described as “bonkers, adventurous, silly, ambitious, charming, foolish,” and “blatant airheadedness,” is a true enigma. While some may find the transitions and screens of blinding lights to be too much, others may appreciate the film’s beauteous and emotionally exquisite qualities. The nonlinear storytelling keeps the audience waiting for revelations, but the artificiality of the film may be a turn-off for some. However, if you prefer intellectual and challenging fare, The Fountain is a labor of love that is worth experiencing. Plus, Wolverine Man Jackman’s performance is nothing short of noble.
The Fountain is a film that’s like a rollercoaster ride – it’s thrilling, it’s confusing, and it’s over before you know it. Some critics loved it, some hated it, but one thing’s for sure – it’s not your typical Hollywood fare. With its stunning visuals and ambitious storytelling, The Fountain is a movie that demands your attention and rewards your patience. So if you’re in the mood for something different, something daring, something that will make you think and feel, give The Fountain a chance. Who knows, you might just love it.

It’s difficult to recall another American film that, in pursuing a passionate and personal vision, goes so maddeningly, uproariously wrong.

I will concede the film is not a great success. Too many screens of blinding lights. Too many transitions for their own sake. Abrupt changes of tone.

Bonkers, adventurous, silly, ambitious, charming, foolish; it’s all those things and it’ll be gone in a week. But it’s not mainstream Bore-o fare, and for that it should be celebrated.

The real tragedy of The Fountain is that Aronofsky doesn’t allow his audience to exist with his characters, and the emotional weight of the stories is squandered on an overt symbolism.

Although some may find the ping-pong time travels as distracting or even annoying, this is definitely my pick as the most beauteous and emotionally exquisite films of the decade. The Fountain speaks volumes.

Behind The Lens
Told in nonlinear fashion, the story keeps us waiting for revelations about what’s really going on — but these are few and far between. This problem is exacerbated by the artificiality of just about everything that we see.

As with his other films, The Fountain is a labor of love for Aronofsky, and it shows. If you prefer intellectual and challenging fare, by all means, go and see this one.
