    John M. Stahl was an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was one of the most successful filmmakers of the 1930s, directing a number of critically acclaimed films such as Imitation of Life, Magnificent Obsession, and Leave Her to Heaven. He was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture for Leave Her to Heaven. Stahl was known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to create emotionally powerful films. He died in 1950 at the age of 65.
