David O. Selznick was an American film producer, screenwriter, and film studio executive. He is best known for producing Gone with the Wind (1939), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Picture. He also produced Rebecca (1940), A Star Is Born (1937), and Duel in the Sun (1946). Selznick was known for his attention to detail and his insistence on having a strong personal hand in all of his projects. He was also a pioneer in the use of television and radio to promote his films. Selznick died in 1965 at the age of 63.
