Darryl F. Zanuck was an American film producer and studio executive who played a major part in the Hollywood studio system as one of its longest survivors. He earned three Academy Award nominations for Best Picture as the producer of Gentleman’s Agreement, All About Eve, and The Longest Day. He was also responsible for many of the most successful and critically acclaimed films of the 1940s and 1950s, including The Grapes of Wrath, How to Marry a Millionaire, and The Sound of Music. He was also the founder of 20th Century Fox, and was inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1949.
