She Said (2022)
RT Audience Score: 91%
Awards & Nominations: NA
Although She Said struggles to add cinematic flair to its fact-based story, it remains a worthy, well-acted tribute to journalistic integrity.
She Said may not be the most thrilling movie out there, but it’s still a pretty solid nod to the importance of good journalism. The acting is top-notch, and you can tell the filmmakers really wanted to do justice to the true story behind it all. Sure, it might not be the most cinematic thing you’ve ever seen, but it’s definitely worth a watch if you’re into that kind of thing. Plus, who doesn’t love a good tribute to journalistic integrity?

She Said is not self-congratulatory; it’s a reminder that empathy can require immense effort, and that even then, such effort might not lead to certain success.

… The movie has a frankness and clarity of purpose to defy even the edgiest troll, a sturdy pulse embodied by a coolly furious Mulligan.

Plot
New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor break one of the most important stories in a generation — a story that helped launch the #MeToo movement and shattered decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault in Hollywood. Based on the book, “She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement,” written by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, and the New York Times article by Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey and Rebecca Corbett.
Trivia
Goofs / Tidbits
The film starts off by showing a young woman walking along a beach in Ireland in Ireland in 1992 and seeing a film shoot taking place, indicating that Harvey Weinstein was involved in a film in production in Ireland in 1992. The film appears to be a historical piece as there are actors in period costumes. The name of this film is never stated but no period drama involving Weinstein appears to have been shot in Ireland in 1992. The nearest that can be found that fits the parameters are ‘Into the West’ (1992), which has some beach scenes but was actually filmed in 1991. Weinstein did oversee one costume drama that was filmed in 1992, The Hour of the Pig (1993) but that was filmed in France & England, not Ireland.
