The rare action thriller that spikes adrenaline without skimping on character development, Prey is a Predator prequel done right.
If you’re looking for a movie that’ll get your heart racing and still give you some good character development, Prey is the one for you. It’s like a prequel to Predator, but actually done well (sorry, not sorry). This action thriller is a rare gem that’ll have you on the edge of your seat.

The rare franchise installment that finds a fresh, compelling spin on the material while also effectively drawing inspiration from the original without being suffocated by it.

Hulu’s clever prequel to Predator is so much more than IP exploitation—it’s bloodthirsty, self-assured, and crowd-pleasing

The result is pretty fun, if also a tonal mishmash of goofiness and gorgeous landscapes.

A “Predator” story should have well-crafted and excitingly staged scenes of humans fighting an alien. This picture has plenty.

A prequel to the Predator series that stays true to the essence of the original – stylishly violent, stickily graphic, impossibly tense – while also working satisfyingly as a self-contained entity.

Hollywood loves to crank out boring action movies. But Hulu’s Prey is anything but. It plays off of and reverses long-standing Hollywood tropes about Native Americans to craft an alien thriller that actually delivers.

The Jacobin
A thrilling and suspenseful horror action-adventure. The filmmakers incorporate the Indigenous cultural aspect in a clever way that works for the story, featuring a phenomenal female protagonist who’s a force to be reckoned with.

Prey basks in a visual style that’s attractive but rarely expressive: a capable sort of commercial work.

The performances are unforced and natural; both Midthunder and Beavers exude screen charisma without making a big deal of it. Technically the film is quite beautiful, evoking the sort of pristine wilderness captured so hauntingly in The Revenant.

Plot
Naru, a skilled warrior of the Comanche Nation, has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains. So when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries. Fifth installment in the Predator franchise.
Trivia
Goofs / Tidbits
The movie takes place on the Northern Great Plains, but says that the warriors are Comanche. There Comanche were not a tribe on the Northern Great Plains. The Comanche were in Texas, eastern New Mexico, and the most southern part of Kansas. Tribes of the Northern Great Plains included Assiniboine, Sioux, Crow, Blackfeet, Plains Cree, Ojibwa, Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara. The Northern Great Plains extended from Northern Nebraska to Canada and didn’t include any part of the traditional Comanche territory.
