Loving (2016)
RT Audience Score: 76%
Awards & Nominations: NA
Loving takes an understated approach to telling a painful — and still relevant — real-life tale, with sensitive performances breathing additional life into a superlative historical drama
Loving is a heartwarming film that reminds us of the struggles that people have faced in the past and how far we’ve come. The performances by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga are truly award-worthy, and the emotional bond between the characters is communicated well. While the script could use a bit more dialogue to develop the characters further, the film is still touching and honest. Overall, Loving is a must-watch for anyone who wants to be reminded of the basic human rights we take for granted. Plus, who doesn’t love a good love story?

The script could use a bit more dialogue in order to allow the audience to know the characters better. Still, the emotional bond is communicated well.

The film shines a light on how far the U.S. has come in its views of equality, but also how far it has still to go. A true story that is still very relevant, Loving is understated, compelling and deeply affecting.

Aided by awards-worthy performances from Joel Edgerton and especially Ruth Negga, Nichols delivers an intimate drama that feels all the bigger for keeping its scope so resolutely small.

This could be the synopsis of a mediocre “inspirational” telemovie, but Nichols is a very deliberate artist, and Loving is as carefully made as anything he has done.

Touching, earnest, and important, LOVING reminds us of the basic human rights we take for granted and how recent it was that they were not an option.

Loving is less captivating than reservedly steadfast, just as its characters are, settling the viewer into a hushed story that booms with modern-day relevance.

Deep Focus Review
While I was thrilled at the outcome of the case, I was disappointed that the film didn’t develop the Lovings more as individual characters. Even so, Loving is still very much worth the watch.

Whatever electric qualities the characters might have comes from their performers, but these are ultimately adornments that find few outlets in the dramatic text. Nichols’ commitment to restraint betrays its limitations.

KSDK News (St. Louis)
It’s as if Nichols saw all that could go wrong and worked only to avoid it, not transcend or transform.

Plot
Another spoof from the mind of Mel Brooks . This time he’s out to poke fun at the Dracula myth. Basically, he took “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” gave it a new cast and a new script and made a big joke out of it. The usual, rich English are attacked by Dracula and Dr. Van Helsing is brought in to save the day.
